AQUARIUM PLAYING CARDS
This project involved the design and development of a unique deck of playing cards created as a gift
for the donors and sponsors of the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium. The objective was to create a
set of cards that is not only functional but also highlights some of the amazing animal species that
call the Aquarium home.
The theme of the deck offers a dynamic take on the Aquarium brand. It utilizes the blue and orange
brand colors and showcases illustrations for the face cards that reflect different classifications
of animals residing in the Aquarium: saltwater, freshwater, and endotherms (split between birds and
mammals).
This project was completed by a team of three designers. My main role was to design the clubs suit.
The trickiest part of this project was collaborating with my teammates to ensure our styles matched
so that the deck of cards felt cohesive. By being sensitive to this, I was able to refine my
illustration skills. In addition to my main role, I assisted in designing the clipping masks to
achieve a three-dimensional effect in the design. It was important to ensure all of the face cards
felt evenly dimensional across suits.
As a team, we put a lot of care into the design of this deck, and the positive feedback we received
reinforced the importance of thoughtful design in enhancing our overall goal.
